Archery Club
Archery is a timeless and elegant sport that combines skill, precision, and focus. Dating back thousands of years, archery has evolved from a hunting and warfare tool to a competitive and recreational activity. The archer, armed with a bow and arrows, must master the art of drawing, aiming, and releasing with accuracy. The sport demands both physical strength and mental discipline as archers strive to hit targets at various distances. Whether practiced in a modern archery range or against the backdrop of historical traditions, archery fosters a sense of concentration and control. It’s a sport that transcends time, captivating enthusiasts with its blend of athleticism and artistry, making each arrow release a symphony of skill and precision.
Barnstaple Archery Club was formed in November 1999 and offers target archery in North Devon to archers of all abilities. The club currently has approximately 50 members. We have sessions 3 times a week (Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays) all located at the Petroc college site in Barnstaple
The Taster session is the best way to experience the sport without the commitment of multiple sessions that make up the Beginners Course. The taster session covers the basic principles of archery and how to shoot your first arrows. The taster session only costs £10 and if you decide to move on to the beginners course you will get a £10 discount to the cost.
Before you join the archery club you will need to complete a beginners’ course, which will introduce you to the sport and teach you how to shoot safely. These courses are incredibly popular so please contact us as soon as possible to avoid disappointment - our Archery GB qualified coaches and their invaluable helpers are all volunteers, but we try our best to cope with the demand! To get on the waiting list please email beginners@barnstaplearchery.org.uk
Once you've been a member for a few months we recommend you looking at attending our improvers courses which take place on a Saturday. The course covers advanced techniques and theory and will help in identifying areas to focus on to become a better archer. The course is free to all Barnstaple Archery Club members.
